Watch the biggest trades land.

Every big trade, ranked against its own ticker's history since 2016.

Data, not advice. Market data delayed 15 minutes. History starts in January 2016, or on a ticker's first covered day if later.

Big prints across the market, as they arrive

The tape is a running list of unusually large trades across the stocks and ETFs we cover. Each row shows the ticker, the dollars, the rank and where it traded. Select a row and the chart opens at that moment.

Prints arrive 15 minutes after they trade. Each row shows the time it traded.

How big is big?

A $40 million trade is routine in one stock and the #1 Print in another. So BigTape gives every big print two numbers. The first is its size in dollars. The second is its rank among that ticker's own trades since 2016.

Read it at a glance

Every print on the chart is one of four types: Lit or Dark, regular or Sweep. Shape is the kind of trade. Color is where it traded. Size and number are the rank.

  • Circle · A regular print, Lit or Dark
  • Diamond · A Sweep, Lit or Dark
  • Lit color · Traded on a public stock exchange
  • Dark color · Traded off-exchange
  • Bigger mark, with a number · Higher rank. The number is its all-time rank, top 100 since 2016
  • Biggest mark, with a 1 · The #1 Print
  • Doubled outline · More prints at that spot. The mark shown is the biggest

In the light and dark themes, Lit prints are blue and Dark prints are pink. Colors change with the theme. Shapes never do, and every tooltip names the venue in words.

No mark points up or down, and none uses the candle colors.

See where Dark volume built up

Some trades happen off-exchange, at private venues or inside brokers. BigTape calls them Dark. When heavy Dark dollar volume builds up in one price zone, the chart shades it as a Dark Level, ranked all-time for the ticker by its Dark dollars since 2016. The chart draws the top three levels in the price range you're looking at and labels the #1; point at another line to see its rank. You can pick from Show 3 to Show 20, or turn them off.

Your tickers and the market, side by side

Your favorites sit beside the chart, each with today's change and the all-time rank of its last ranked print. Under them sit SPY, QQQ, IWM, DIA and the 11 sector ETFs. Select any row and the same chart switches to it, with your layout kept.

  • #4

    Last ranked print

A badge like #4 is the all-time rank (since 2016) of the ticker's most recent ranked print, however long ago it landed. A small New tag means a ranked print landed today.

  • Compare with its sector

Compare draws a ticker and its sector ETF on one chart, both measured from the same start.

Since you last looked

Step away for an hour or a weekend. When you come back, one card lists what changed on your tickers, biggest first. Select an item and the chart jumps to that moment.

Alerts that open the print

Tell BigTape what to watch for, like a New #1 Print on any of your favorites. When an alert fires, one tap opens the chart at that moment, with the print and the rule that matched.

Alerts use the same data as the chart, so they arrive at least 15 minutes after the trade. Each alert shows when the trade happened and when we sent it.

Alerts can arrive late or not at all. Information only, not a recommendation to trade.

Honest by design

A chip on every screen says how fresh the data is. If updates stop, it says so and shows the last update. If nothing unusual happened, it says that too.

Every trade has a buyer and a seller. Trade reports don't say which side started it, so BigTape never gives a print a side or a direction. It never tells you what to trade, either.

BigTape covers U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs. Trade history starts in January 2016, or on a ticker's first covered day if later.

Questions people ask

Short answers. Every term is in the glossary, every plan on pricing and every tool on features.

What is BigTape?

BigTape is a web app that shows unusually large lit and dark pool trades on U.S. stocks and ETFs on one chart, each ranked against that ticker's own trade history since 2016. It is a market-data and research tool for personal investing or business use with delayed data, not investment advice.

What is a dark pool print?

A print is one reported trade. A dark pool print, called Dark in BigTape, is a trade made off-exchange, at a private venue or inside a broker; a Lit print traded on a public exchange.

What is a Dark Level?

A Dark Level is a price zone where heavy dark pool dollars built up since 2016, ranked against that ticker's other levels. It is a record of past trades and says nothing about where price goes next.

What does Top 0.1% mean?

A Top 0.1% print is bigger than 99.9% of that ticker's trades since 2016, with a $50,000 minimum. The larger tiers are Top 100, Top 10 and the #1 Print, the ticker's largest single trade since 2016.

How does BigTape rank block trades?

Every large print is ranked by its dollar size against that ticker's own trades since 2016, so each stock is measured against its own history. A rank describes size only, never which side started a trade or where price goes next.

How much does BigTape cost?

BigTape is free on the 11 sector ETFs plus one ticker you pick; Big, with every covered stock and ETF, is $89 a month or $854 a year (yearly saves 20%), with a 7-day trial.
